It's Miss Penny and# today we are at a holiday festival to find out about India.
It's all about colors and love# and friendship and food.
I can't wait.
Come on.
India is a large country in Asia with over# a billion people.
It has tall mountains called the Himalayas in the north and is surrounded by# oceans.
India is famous for beautiful temples and interesting wildlife like tigers and elephants.# It's also known for festivals like Holi, where people throw bright colors, eat delicious# food, and celebrate family, friends, love, joy, and the start of spring.
Holi is often called the# festival of colors.
Many languages are spoken in India including a language called Hindi.
My# friend Sanji told me all about people and how they often greet each other and say goodbye in# Hindi.
Generally India when you greet to each other and around the you know India you know here# we hello there we call namaste.
So I'm just saying namaste like that.
So you know you just fold your# hands and you'll see you know just fold your hand and say namaste and generally we bow that.
So# that's the one way and when you are meeting to the general family and friends second traditional# is very well known to respect to the elder.
So how do that of course I am I believe I'm younger# than do so.
So watch here how I'm respecting younger people elder to the parent.
I'm going to# touch your feet like that.
So that's a feet touch and that's say when you are touching the feet the# elder people are blessing they put your hand right hand on your head so they really blessing from# your heart and that's the most important in life because somebody's blessing you so from heart is# coming out then we talked about the holy festival what is the meaning the reason behind the reason# behind there's a color of festival it's like I can see the friendship even during the year you# have some negative positive different kind of thought people greet to each other and remove# your negative thought and just develop more friendship.
Today we are using about seven color# you know covering like yellow, green, uh pink, red, purple like a different color but again# color.
Yeah.
So it's a washable you know even if you put put on the clothes it's still you know# after one or two wash it will go away.
So this is really the opening of spring and friendship# and just being together.
That's correct.
like you are smiling you know that's that's you want# everybody face should be just in smiling and greet and respect to each other and that's the festival# I believe that's the festival means any kind of a festival because you are you know mixing to each# other enjoying to each other you are giving to high feed each other it's almost time to throw the# colors but first Sanji and I tasted a traditional Indian drink let me offer you first is a very very# traditional any drink you know first thing in the morning you wake up you want your tea.
We had a# tea called masala chai.
Masala chai means spiced tea.
It's made by brewing black tea with a mix# of spices, milk, and sweetener.
It's delicious.
I couldn't wait to start throwing the colors,# though.
But first, I had to change into white clothes.
People often wear white during# the holy festival so the colors show up better.
Some women wear beautiful traditional# wraps called sars.
Men wear a long shirt with loose pants called kurt pajamas.
The word# pajama actually comes from a Hindi word that means loose pants.
Hi kids.
Today we're at a# holy festival to find out more about India.
Tell us about it.
Okay, so this is a festival# of colors.
It's called Holi.
So at like here we throw powder on each other and they'll break# out the water guns in a little bit too.
And yeah, that's basically it.
If I want to get# involved, how do I throw the colors?
That looks awesome.
I'm going to change into white# and join you.
Okay, that's wonderful.
Thank you.
Once I was in white, it was# time for the colors.
Hooray!
[Music] It was so much fun.
After our colorful fun, it was time to eat a# delicious Indian meal together.
Indian food is often vegetarian, which means it uses plant-based# ingredients, vegetables like beans and rice.
Vegetarian food doesn't include meat.
Bread is# often part of Indian meals.
You might have tasted a traditional bread from India called nan.
It's# soft, flat, and baked in an oven.
Today, we had a different kind of bread called py.
It's similar# to nan, but it's fried with oil instead of baked, so it's crispy.
I had such a great time learning# about India and the Holy Festival.
I met wonderful people, ate delicious food, and of course, had# tons of fun with colors.
