According to the CIA World Factbook, two-fifths of the Haitian population depend on the agricultural sector, mainly small-scale subsistence farming. With 80% of its population living under the poverty line, Haiti relies on formal international economic assistance for fiscal sustainability and over half of its annual budget coming from the international community.
